About Disability Training

Cornard Dynamos has for the last three years offered free football coaching to those players who have special needs or are disabled. The sessions are held by Andy Millar a fully qualified FA Coach.

Each session is relaxed, fun and informative that contains gentle exercise and problem solving. Each player who attends is an individual who receives one on one instruction depending on their ability to take part and soon learns to become a team player and benefit from group participation.

AFC Cornard Dynamos considers each player to be a member of our club and free to take part in our fundraising and presentation days at the end of each season. Eack player receives a trophy and is entitled to every facility that AFC Cornard Dynamos provides for its members. Many able bodied players join our training sessions and each week social barriers and misunderstandings are being broken as a result of the pleasure that football brings.

The effort and courage that all our players demonstrate each week shows how important football is to everyone in our community and we will support them in every way we can.

If you or a family member or friend is interested in taking part just turn up each Saturday at 11.30am. There are NO restrictions for anyone who wishes to participate. Details are always listed at the top of this page so you can keep up to date with your training times and all the other activities of the club.

                                Football is for All

Saturday, 02 July 2005.

Ipswich Town Football Club was the venue for the Coaching disabled footballers course on Friday 20th May. The course was delivered by the FA National Football Development Manager for Disability Jeff Davis.

The course was arranged as part of Suffolk FA’s commitment to the FA’s disability strategy. To ensure that disability Football has sustainable success, it is important create a base of fully trained coaches to go into Schools and Clubs providing opportunities to young players with special needs to play, and enourage Clubs to be fully inclusive and accessible to all.

Coaches from Ipswich Town Disability F.C, ITFC football in the Community, AFC Cornard Dynamo’s, Pakefield F.C., Felixstowe & Walton F.C., Bungay Town, Babergh and Suffolk Coastal District Councils, Raw Soccer as well as other organisations, all enjoyed Jeff’s full attention, as they were guided through the inclusion spectrum and given practical examples of it’s use in making their football coaching fully inclusive to all players.

The 20 coaches took part in a day of workshops and exercises aimed at addressing the many issues that face disabled players in their efforts to take an active part in the game.

Each organisation attending, received a Red equipment bag full of multi purpose footballs to help them in delivering their sessions.

Disability coaching sessions are already underway in Sudbury, organised through Babergh District Councils Disability Officer Greg Cooper, along with community coach Glenn Parker.

Local football Club AFC Cornard Dynamos also hold regular sessions for players with special needs at their Club in Great Cornard. The Club’s Vice-Chairman Andy Millar, who attended the course said: ‘As a level 2 coach, I have over the past 2 years, been helping to lead our Club’s delivery of Disability football. I found the content of the Coaching Disabled Footballer’s course particularly useful, and look forward to putting the ideas shown today into practice in my future coaching sessions’.

24th September 2005

As the weather begins to get colder it becomes more difficult for our players and carers to enjoy the benefits of football training at Blackhouse Lane. Depending on numbers that attend next week disability training will end for the winter months and restart in the spring 2006.

If the players decide that they want to continue we might still be able to train for a few more weeks. Please take time to consider whether you wish to play when the weather is colder and if you do, don't forget to bring jackets and tracksuit bottoms to keep warm. See you all on Saturday.

Throughout 2005 AFC Cornard Dynamos are holding disability football training sessions for all. The sessions are open to men and women, boys and girls from 10 years of age. The sessions are free. The sessions are so popular, that many Dynamo's players stay behind after they have finished their own training session to help out and form teams with disabled players.

Disabled toilets allowing wheelchair access exist at AFC Cornard Dynamos together with changing rooms and kitchen facilities. The purpose of the sessions is to introduce football to EVERYONE regardless of their individual learning or physical disability.

We have teamed up with Ipswich Town Disability FC and also Babergh District Council 'Be Active' campaign to bring football to those that might think they could never be involved with the game.

Sessions are run by Andy Millar qualified FA coach and are outside on the playing fields. If the weather is very bad arrangements can be made to take the sessions indoors. All equipment is provided but participants are asked to bring a drink and shin pads.

If you are interested in attending, or know someone who would enjoy playing football contact Vice Chairman Andy Millar via the contact page or on 01787 310655 or 07855 259412.
